Things my campers say

Camp is off and running, fast! It has been a great first two days! We have beaten the record heat and humidity setting days and are having a blast!

My group is an adorable group of 13 little 4 1/2 and 5 year olds. I have all their names down and I haven't lost anyone yet!

So, so far I have heard these adorable/funny things coming from my boys!

T: Tamar, how old are you?
Me: I'm 22.
T: Oh that makes you 20 years younger than my mom. She's 42.
Me: That's right.
T: And you're 18 years younger than my dad. He's 40.

*I could not do math like that when I was 5!!*

C: Tamar why don't you sound like you normally do? (I have an awful case of laryngitis, fun right)
Me: I got a cold and my voice got sick.
C: Oh, I hope it comes back soon, this voice sounds funny.

E: (after a mini wrestling match during soccer): Well, the real soccer players wrestle on the field!
Me: Yes, but even they are not supposed to do that. And they get in trouble when they do.
E: Does this mean I have to get a yellow card?

I'm also having fun seeing other kids that went to my mom's nursery school, they have been a little surprised to see me somewhere else.

J: But, how can you be here?

Z: Hi Idie!! (My mom)
Me: Zoey, I'm not Idie!
Z: I know, but you look like her!

That's it for now! There are 33 more days for them to say adorable things!

Leaving My Mark on NY

This morning I set out for a lovely 15 mile bike ride on the Bronx River Parkway. They shut it down to cars on Sunday morning so bikers, runners, and skaters can enjoy the hilly motor way.

Well, I was having a great ride. I was making great time, having an easy time on the serious uphills, and enjoying the warm and sunny morning.

Then, as I was mere seconds from getting off the parkway and heading the few blocks back home it sorta kinda went down hill. In front of me was a little kid who was not so balanced on their bike. They were weaving all over the road and I was going slowly behind them waiting to be able to pass by. Then they really swerved, and to keep myself from crushing them too, I swerved. But I swerved a bit too hard and then hit the ground hard....

I hit my elbow, then my hip, and then rolled. I quickly bounced up and realized I had really hurt my elbow. A nice biker stopped and offered his water to rinse the gash and another lovely man stopped and fished two big band-aids out of his pack.

I quickly made my way home. My biggest fear was that I had a broken elbow. Mom was more concerned about the 1/2 inch gash on top of my elbow. After icing the elbow and washing me up we decided it was best to head to Urgent Care, to be safe rather than sorry.

An hour later it was determined it is not broken but I did earn 3 stitches!

This is only the second time I have ever gotten stitches! If you know me and how active I was as a child you will know that going 20 years in between stitches is huge!

So no weight lifting until the stitches come out in 9 days. I can get them wet (thank goodness) and I am thank God not in a cast, and not too sore (I will eat my words in the morning...)

So all in all, could have been worse, and I still had a lovely morning on the Bronx River!

For memory's sake I am including a picture of the lovely elbow. It isn't pretty!

Nice to know I left my mark (literally) on NY!

My Life.

My mom and I share our car. It works pretty well, as long as we coordinate our calendars.

There is one slight issue sometimes though...

I am measure in at 5 foot 6 inches (if I stand up straight)

and my mom measures in pretty much around 6 feet.

This is what happens when I get into the car after she has driven....

She cannot even sit in the car after I have been driving!!

Lucy

We recently went "back to our roots" ie South Jersey for a very good friend's bar mitzvah. After 3 years since we had moved up here to NY, I several places I wanted to go, things to do, etc.

Seeing Lucy was of them. Lucy is a HUGE elephant in Margate. She used to be a hotel (swank, no?) and is now a small tourist attraction (that was featured in Newsweek years ago!). I grew up with Lucy being part of my neighborhood and I realized I had no pictures of this big beauty, well now I do!!
She's huge, see?

I used to love going up onto the observation deck when I was little. You could see for miles on a clear day!
And seriously, how many elephants do know with windows in their tushies?

So glad I have these memories of "back home" to have forever!!
