Waiting on my train...

I arrived at the train station a bit early on Sunday. The weather was glorious so I decided to wait down on the tracks. I was just taking it all in and decided to snap some pics of the platform and station.
There is so much concrete. I am not typically a huge concrete fan, but there is something interesting about all the concrete and metal mixed together here.
Most stations that I wind up waiting at are, um, unattractive, but Stamford is actually kind of nice. The mix of lines and shadows, it's very eye catching.
There are so many different lines, so many different textures. So much depth. At a train station. A main hub for the metro-area.
Most people probably don't even notice this. They dash in to catch a train to work or another engagement. The station, to many, is just a means to an end.
To me, it is that, but I am glad I was able to see a different side of the station. An artsy side. An elegant side.
It's not everyday I find myself waiting on a train platform with my camera in hand. But, Sunday, was a chance to see this station that I am pretty familiar with in a whole new light.
It really is amazing what I can see through my camera lens. A whole new view of the world I have already been viewing.

Week 8 around the sun

Thank heavens for February break! It was so nice to be home, relaxing, sleeping past 5, getting a great deal of work done, having some fun and quality time with mom. We saw "Anything Goes," ate out some, I got a jump start on my huge science unit I am writing, and I took care of some doctors appointments. Now, bring on the end of February and March!

And my favorite pic of the month - from day 38 - the skylight at my grad school!

Scav Hunt Sunday: Groceries and Glimpses

Bliss:
One of the times that I am at my happiest is when I am working out. Endorphines make me happy.

Crossing:
You can't go more than a few hundred feet in the city without having to cross a street, along with every other person in the city.

Glimpse:
All the reflective surfaces in the city offer glimpses you might not see otherwise.

Grey:
Such a privilege to see Joel Grey in "Anything Goes" this past week! He is super talented!

Handwritten:
Doing some grocery shopping to get ready for shabbat dinner this week.

I also just realized that this is my 400th post! Yowza!

Anything Goes!

I've been thoroughly enjoying my February vacation, aside from working on a bunch of course work and sleeping past 5am, I've been relaxing and enjoying time at home. I had initially wanted to go snowboarding over the break, but winter hasn't been cooperating - so a day in NYC was plan B!
We headed into the city yesterday, we went right over to tkts to get tickets. There was quite the line, everyone and their uncle was in NYC for February break.  So I waited  in line and people watched and Mom ran off to a quick work meeting.
Our top choice was Jersey Boys, but they didn't have two seats near one another. So I decided "Anything Goes" would work! We wound up with seats in the 7th row of the balcony for 50% off! I love tkts!
We wandered around, grabbed some lunch, went into the GAP, and literally bumped into old family friends from back in South Jersey, talk about small world in NYC! Then it was show time!
The show has such a great cast! It hasn't even been open a full year so it's still the original cast, Sutton Foster and Joel Grey! Um, yes please! John McMartin was in it as well, and we had seen him in "Into the Woods" 10 years ago (good gracious, it's been that long!).
It was such a great show! Sutton Foster was amazing! She totally carries the show and has such a great voice (she deserved that Tony)! The huge tap number was just amazing, I can still hear the tapping!

It was a great day, I love being able to see Broadway shows - mom and I were recalling all of the shows we've seen over the years - such great memories!

Amaryllis

I just love amaryllises (amaryllisi?)! I have always thought they were just gorgeous and I remember, as a child, giving them to my teachers as holiday gifts. My mom gave me one to grow this winter and it was so fun to watch it grow and bloom before my eyes.
I loved coming in everyday and seeing how much more it had grown or if it had blossomed. A nice little surprise at the end of a long day!
This was such a gorgeous white. It really livened up my apartment. So nice to have a flowering plant in the middle of winter, just makes it all cheery and not so dead and dreary.
I'm sort of bummed that this one is already fading, but I can't wait to next winter to watch another amaryllis grow and blossom!

PS: I thought my word verification was off, now it really is off!

7 weeks gone by

Another week! A busy one too. Valentine's Day with the class, watching the kids perform for their parents, another Wheelock observation, breaking a toe (not my favorite feature of the week), and the start of February vacation (a favorite feature of the week).  Now it's time for a week of rest and relaxation (and course work), but sleeping past 5am!

ps - The Artist - amazing!!

Scav Hunt Sunday: Tablets and Tupperware

Love:
Getting ready for my first real time celebrating. Gave these chocolates to some of my fellow teachers.

Trendy:
My mom lives round the corner from the Ritz Carlton, doesn't get much trendier than that.

Duplicated:
There's two of me! The original will always be the best!

Paper:
I'm a NYT type of girl. I love using my ipad to read the paper each day, without having all that paper laying about.

Plastic:
My lunch packing container of choice.

Lucky?

I love bamboo. It's so green and thin, and whimsical. And lucky? Well, maybe not for me. I mean, I have no proof that it doesn't provide me with good or bad luck. It's more like I don't have the best luck with it.

Exhibit A:
One lovely green stalk of bamboo. And one not so lucky stick of bamboo. I don't know what I did to it.
Clearly, one of them is thriving.
Or at least, one of them isn't dead...
They both received equal amount of water and sunlight. I guess one of them is just a wee bit luckier!
Let's see how lucky this last bamboo standing is. Not sure if I should be hoping it's lucky enough to not  perish or if I should be hoping 1 strand of lucky bamboo is enough to bring me luck!
