Red Klotz and the Generals

One of the reasons I made an effort to see the Globetrotters when they were in town was because of a family connection to the two teams they play against. My grandmother's cousin was Red Klotz. Red was a well known NBA player who formed, played for, and coached the Washington Generals and New York Nationals.
Red is number 3.

Sadly, Red passed away over the summer, so I thought this was a great year to get out to a game in his memory. I emailed my cousins (his daughter/son-in-law) who now manage the team and they got me tickets and I was able to see them during the game; it was great to catch up with them!
The Generals are famous for beating the Globetrotters in 1971! They opened up the game, while introducing the Generals talking about that. I may have been the only person rooting for them, too, ha!
The Generals were wearing a yellow patch on their jerseys with Red's signature on it, which was cool to see and hear about. In the end, they almost won, and it was great to get a chance to finally see the team a family member had built so many years ago!

    so much fun! What an interesting part of your history!! My kids used to love to see the Globetrotters - but when they came here - it was the same show - 3 years in a row! So we stopped going!

    It would've been great to see the Globetrotters in action anyway, but to have a sort of connection to the team/s playing, that's double the treat!
