I've always been athletic. I work out every day, love sports, love moving and being fit. But, I had never entered or completed in a formal road race. Until Sunday! I signed up and raised money for the AIDS Action 5k. It felt great to raise money for a great cause and get my first 5k under my belt all at once.
I was a bit anxious picking up my bib on race day. I wandered around the Boston Common warming up waiting for everything to kick off; my main goal: to finish and have fun. The run itself was along the Charles River and the weather was perfect - I totally had butterflies in my stomach as the horn blew and I made my way across the starting line.
But, I did it - met my goal of being at or around 30 minutes! Official time was 30:31. Not too shabby and I felt pretty good throughout the race.
Pretty proud of myself and looking forward to more runs, both for fun and for official times!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tamar. I can only remember what it was like to be able to run. Remembering the feeling of a runner's high never really leaves you even after years of not running any more.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! That is so awesome!! Great time too!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! Go you! I'm sure it feels like such an accomplishment. I'm jealous as I'm still nursing my right knee. Only walks for me.

ReplyDeleteSO PROUD OF YOU for this! Great job having a goal and yet having a goal to also just ENJOY. This rocks. And you're right. Your day was gorgeous! My only 5K was on a cloudy freezing fall day - through a cornfield!
