I took a personal day on Friday (use it or lose it) and drove up to Salem to see the new Rodin exhibit. I love sculpture and he is really one of a kind when it comes to the art.
His works are amazing, heavy, dense, powerful pieces. Rodin considered metamorphosis when sculpting. He saw his works as ever changing, not final polished pieces. It really does appear that way. There was a movement and power to each amazing work of stone and bronze.
I need to get to the Rodin museum in Philly for sure now!

ReplyDeleteI'm hit with Rodin a lot this week. My SIL are in Paris and just posted pics from the Musee Rodin and now your post.... I love Rodin's work and remembering spending a few hours at the Musee Rodin when I was there.

ReplyDeleteI admit I'm more of a Michelangelo than a Rodin fan, but they both appeal to me because their work seems to be a realist (though sometimes over-optimistic) portrayal of the human form.
I think the fact that I was able to see The Pieta during the NY World's Fair back in the 60's may have much to do with my preference for Michelangelo. This was a soul-shaking experience for me at an age when it was difficult to shake my soul.

These are super cool. I'd like one for my house. My husband does bronze castings, but his are more abstract.

Some powerful images indeed. A couple of the pieces seem to have a lot of anguish sculpted into them,especially the hands. Have a blessed day.

Since when I saw the museum in Paris, Rodin is one of my favorite! What he created is stunning!
