{Hotel California -- Eagles}
The Hotel Alexandra was built in the South End of Boston in the 1870s - a beautiful Victorian structure for it's time in the just developing South End neighborhood.
Not soon into the 1900s, the elevated train was built and the building and hotel apparently began their decline. The building is one of the few historic structures left in that area of the city and fell into serious disrepair in the last 30ish years.
It's experienced water and fire damage and has been vacant and in a permanent state of neglect. However, there are talks for the building and lot next door to be redeveloped into a boutique hotel, which would be so fun for the neighborhood!

ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting place!
ReplyDeleteOK< the photo with the sign "Thumbs" and those grooves of metal pairs in front of it...I'm intrigued as to their meaning. Does anyone else know?
ReplyDeleteOoh I hope the do rebuild it. How cool!
ReplyDelete...a GREAT Eagles tune! There is a Hotel California in Las Vegas, it's a popular place with Hawaiians.
ReplyDeleteI love these old buildings !
ReplyDeleteI hope they do something with it, such history. Great angles on this regal old building, you brought it to life.
ReplyDeleteGreat share - it's sad and fascinating watching these great buildings in decline. It's like you can still see the granduer it had in it's faded glory - a little like people I guess too...
ReplyDeleteI hope in the redevelopment that they save the front, at least, of this beautiful old building. Such a shame when these old gems from the past are left to rot. Stay safe and have a good week and thanks again for the link up.
ReplyDeleteI hope that they can bring it back to its former glory.
ReplyDeleteI can tell it was magnificent in its heyday and I do hope it gets some love and care, it would be a shame if it didn't.
