Hammond Castle

Thank you for the castle...
Made of stone let us call our own...

{Castle Man -- Adam Lambert}

A few weeks back I finally made my way north to explore Hammond Castle. The castle was built in Gloucester, overlooking the water, by John Hammond in the 1920s (as a wedding present for his wife!).

The castle was used both as Hammond's home and a way for him to display his vast collection of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance artifacts. He also worked as a researcher and scientist there (and is known to have many patents to his name).

The castle is amazing. Breathtaking views, amazing architecture, gorgeous artifacts. A little slice of history up on the North Shore. I can only imagine what it took to construct the castle nearly 100 years ago and what it would be like to have that view as my backyard!

  12. How sweet! Wonder if he won over his wife's heart with this castle overlooking water. Or maybe she was spoiled? ;) I'd love to visit someday. Thanks for sharing the gorgeous pictures! :)

  13. I love looking at stone castles or buildings. They have such a sense of permanence to them.
