Celebrating Dr. Seuss

I am a lover of all things Dr. Seuss. I saw an awesome activity for Dr. Seuss' birthday on Teaching In Room 6 and finally was able to make it work in our schedule. The main task aligned so well with our current reading comprehension goals and it was great to switch gears and have some fun in reading groups!
The main task was to read a classic Dr. Seuss book, discuss the story in their small group, and then rename the story. We've learned how to use the theme and message of a story to generate a new equally fitting title for books. The added bonus here was to come up with Dr. Seuss worthy titles!
The kids loved this week of reading fun! It was great to let our hair down and do a fun project. The kids got a trip out of the new titles they came up with and they all got to flex their artistic muscles.

I'm so glad we finally did this project - for sure a yearly activity for me now!

    Oh, I loved reading 'A Big Ball of String' to my kids when they were young. Such great books!

    That's a cute idea! Most of the titles make sense but I always thought One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish could have another title!

    We love Dr. Suess week too. You teachers are SO very creative with your projects and who doesn't love to come up with their own silly words!?
