Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore...
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door...
{The New Colossus - Emma Lazarus}
We took a trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island last week during Pesach.
I hadn't been to the Statue of Liberty since I was about one and a half and was so excited to go. Ronan may have been ever more excited to see it!
We explored the museum and climbed the stairs to the pedestal balcony.
The views were amazing and the awe I felt standing in her shadow was intense.
I can only imagine what the immigrants felt when they first glimpsed that statue after weeks at sea.
The promise they felt with the shore within their sights finally!
