P52: Week 17 around the Sun

This week was all about finding a new normal. Everything was normal, but wasn't, you know? You have moments of "this is how it always was" but then you suddenly are talking about something related to the bombings.

Anyway.

It was a full week of school. The first time I had 5 days with the kiddos since the middle of March. See - normal! We are pretty much done with the space unit - the kids really drove the bus (spaceship?) on this one and we have reached a natural end to their curiosity. We had a fun/messy afternoon on Thursday when we used shaving cream and paint to make AMAZING planets! In math I introduced tangrams to the kids, they are in love - so much fun for them and so awesome for me to see them loving a math game like that! So crazy to think we have only 7 weeks left!

The last month, I've been in an informal "contest" at my gym - various challenges/events that you get points for based on your score. Well, this week I really pushed myself, since it ended on Saturday. I upped my monkey bar score and then really smashed it in a few other events. My teammate and I ended up coming in 7th overall, so I am feeling pretty happy!

Saturday, I felt the need to go downtown to the Marathon memorial that people have set up. I had an old pair of shoes that I wanted to add to the memorial and the time felt, right. The weather was perfect and I headed down. It was so touching. It felt really good and right to add my shoes and be there with so many other people paying our respects in a way. People were thanking every police officer they saw for their service and it was amazing to see people out again living on this popular stretch of Boylston St.

Highlight of the week: Sitting around a friend's shabbat table, hearing ten voices sing the blessing after the meal. It just felt so great to be together one week after the lock-down madness, back to life, stronger together.

Favorite teaching moment: Having my math class beg me to extend math so they could keep playing with the tangrams. Too bad we had to go to art!

Random-osity: I locked myself out of my apt on Saturday (mmhmm...). I am pretty good at picking locks and even I was unable to get myself back in...so it's great to know my door is pretty secure! A locksmith call later and all was right with the world.
Also! I'm working on growing the blog's facebook page - won't you please join me over there as well? I post a sampling of the random things around me and would love to connect there (here) too!

Your turn and all the details:

  3. Your highlight - wonderful. The small pieces of "community" and "family" are what hold me together. Also, love the kids wanting more math!! How about that!!

  4. the monkey bar things is pretty awesome. I used to have strong arms but I know I can't monkey bar now! (I pretend to in my back yard but I can reach them standing on the ground, haha).

  5. I knew you'd be keeping track of how many weeks! 17.
Now listen, don't you knock on those special areas...math is good, but art is good too. Jus' sayin' from a music teacher perspective. Bless you for doing an activity with shaving cream. You are one brave girl.
    Have a great day Tamar.

  6. Lovely week friend! Looks like you are really making the best of getting back to normal. I'm glad you were able to go to the tribute. Sometimes we need to stop, reflect, and grieve with others.
