I am determined to pack their little minds chock full of as much information and content as possible before we all lose our mojo, so we had a very busy and amazingly productive week on the school front. I created a massive number line to teach where fractions go on it in relation to whole numbers (the kids loved it!) and we then used the same number line to compare fractions. We even got to division this week - amazing, in January we were still subtracting, and now division and adding fractions!!!
The kids also wrote amazing poems about colors using metaphors and similes. They blew me out of the water. Just amazing. We also tackled the final preparations for the standardized tests they will take this coming week. I spend most of the week getting all the details set and the kids spent time asking me questions as I quelled their concerns about the tests (yes, you will be allowed to go onto 4th grade!). Friday, I filled in an insane number of bubbles as I got each child's test booklet ready, I was seeing bubbles everywhere after that!
Mom came up on Friday for the weekend and we enjoyed some time together. Sadly Memorial Day weekend started off super cold and rainy, a far cry from the last 2 years, but we need the rain so c'est la vie!
Highlight of the week: having mom come up and visit and getting to spend some time together!
Favorite teaching moment: super tough toss up between watching the kids get division so easily and reading their amazing poems: might have to call it a tie!
Random-osity: I've become a temporary (well, we'll see), hockey fan as the Bruins work their way towards the Stanley Cup finals. I find it super amusing how much hockey players fall down, I mean, really guys!?Also! I'm working on growing the blog's facebook page - won't you please join me over there as well? I post a sampling of the random things around me and would love to connect there (here) too!
Your turn and all the details:

How great you got to spend some time with your mom!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your heart to impart knowledge! Those kids sure are blessed to have you!
ReplyDeleteSo you are becoming a Bruin fan huh? Oh Hockey can get so in the blood! The excitement at the games are a riot! Happy Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a playoff Bruins fan too - my favorite thing about them might be the black and yellow. Don't tell! What a joy to watch 'your' children learn! I have kids in to scrapbook every once in a while, and it's fascinating to me to watch them use the tools, paper, etc. and come up with things that none of us grown ups would ever create. They just don't have a "box" yet...no need to work to think out of it!
ReplyDeleteYay! for time with mom :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a safe and happy Memorial Day - and a little warm sunshine too!
I love the poem about Orange. It's so cute! Great Job! Tamar :)
ReplyDeleteOh Tamar, girl friend! Lovely efforts of your teaching is paying off. It make me want to have my 4th grade all over again. (it was my worst year in elementary; too many bad things happened [2 earthquakes, granpa died and had a bad male teacher) Ya.
ReplyDeleteThanks for ALL of your nice words to me!!!!!
I love when kids writes poems, they turn out so honest! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat poems. Little kids and poems just go together because they tell it like it is and don't over think it which makes for amazing poems. Enjoy these last few weeks.
