Location, location, location

I bought a tiny potted "Christmas Cactus" at Trader Joe's the first year I lived in Boston.
I placed it in a spot in my living room that didn't get super direct sunlight, thinking that was what it preferred.
I waited year after year for it to bloom and nada.
A few weeks ago, I moved it to the window to see what would happen.
Within days it had perked up immensly and 3 pink buds have emerged - so now it's dubbed the "Snow Cactus" and it proves...

...a sunny location is everything!

  1. Sun makes almost everything better! I hope you have a great day at school. Search for the sun.

  3. yep - location, location, location. My mom had "Christmas Cactus" and each one bloomed best when in the sun (contrary to I believe what is posted on the info card). I'm with the others - sun is a good thing - especially when scouting out real estate (plant and human wise).

  5. I have one that my husband bought me a couple of years ago. It did not bloom this year at all. I might just have to follow your advice and move it into a window with a view. Re-potting it I'm certain wouldn't hurt either! I'm so excited for you that you have buds!

  6. So pretty! And such a discovery. I do not have a green thumb, so this discovery would feel, to me, like I had won the lottery!!

  8. They are so beautiful, so glad you decided to move it - I think there is a lesson in there for the rest of us too. When we are feeling drab, look for and sit next to the light! :)

  9. How exciting!!!! I have a lily that did that. It never bloomed for years & then all of a sudden it did & then each year after that. Until this year - but it's been growing like mad instead. Can't wait to get it to a better spot & maybe it will again.

  12. I love the color a Christmas Cactus brings to a snowy say. Mine are in full sun and bloom several times during the year! Easy to take cuttings too!
