Recycled Earth

In the sunfilled atrium of 3 World Trade Center is an amazing 13-foot globe made from 100,000+ pieces of plastic litter. Earth Poetica by Israeli artist Beverly Barkat is a gorgeous work of art that took over 3 years to complete. Barkat picked up plastic trash and asked her family and friends to do the same. In her Jerusalem studio, she used plastic trash from around the world. Her goal was to show how Earth has become a plastic dumping ground.
Barkat sorted the plastic by color, form, hardness, strength, and transparency, creating an amazing stained glass effect. If you get up close, you can pick out words in Japanese, Hebrew, English, and even Spanish. You can get a close-up look at the globe and even glance inside it through two openings. It really is a beautiful and thought-provoking piece.

Sadly, we are still a throw-away society - and world. What was created is beautiful though.

Amazing!
Beautiful!
Makes a strong statement about the world we live in, and the destructive habits of some people.

I refuse to give up on the earth. We must vote for those who get it. Aloha!

That is such a beautiful piece of art-- and to think it all started with found garbage.
