I'm so bad at going to the movies. I watch movies, I mean I have netflix and there's always HBO and Showtime (which I suddenly get...), but I am so bad at getting to the theater. That's sad since I live down the road from a great little theater that always has great films and such character.
Anyway, I went and saw Quartet on Sunday afternoon. I love anything British and anything with Maggie Smith.
This theater has been a local landmark for over a hundred years now! I just love the charm and class and history. In each theater, before the show starts an actual curtain goes over the screen. How cool is that? You don't get that at a megaplex!
Anyway, the movie was wonderful. So charming and so sweet. I got a huge kick of Michael Gambon's character telling a few women singing a song from the Mikado to "shut up" - long story but it made my afternoon!
I love having this little theater in my awesome part of town. I may not get into the movies very often, but walking past this theatre makes me smile!
I'm right with you on going to the movies. It's expensive-and well, if you don't go, you don't see the previews-and then you don't get hooked into what "looks really good" and you'd like to see.
ReplyDeleteMaggie Smith rocks. Glad you treated yourself to this. I had one of these theaters in the town I live in in PA. Now the nearest is 1/2 drive. I think I'll just stay home.
Happy day Tamar. "shut up" during the Mikado, sounds about right.
Woof, I rarely get to watch movies or TV because I fall asleep and I don't know what happened! Makes me woofy confused!
ReplyDeleteTamar...it makes me smile too!! It is a cutie! Adorable...I would be there all the time. thank you for sharing this piece of history.
ReplyDeleteYou have a treasure of a theater there! I now want to see Quartet :) Hey, I see that Tinker Tailor Soldier is there -- that is an awesome British movie, one you would enjoy if you haven't seen it yet!
ReplyDeleteThis so reminds me of the town theater where I grew up, sadly it no longer exists. But when it did, it had the curtains and balcony and tiny stage as if a real live performance was about to be presented. Awe the memories.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a sweet theater. I don't get to "the movies" often either, but love it when I stumble across fun theaters like this one.
ReplyDeleteSo fun! Really love that last shot, Tamar.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures, I like the last. Excellent! Greetings.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous theater! You really don't see classic theaters like this anymore, which is sad. The atmosphere really makes movie going an event.
ReplyDeleteI also love anything British, and Maggie Smith! Big fan of Judy Dench, as well.
What a cute theatre! It's been years since I've stepped foot in one!
ReplyDeleteThis looks sooo much like my Ambler Theatre. I will ALWAYS go to this one if given the choice! I've been wanting to see Quartet and actually..it's playing at the Ambler theatre NOW!
ReplyDeleteI just love the theatre; looks like fun! That last shot is so cool! I just love your perspective! I'd love to run a vintage action on it!
ReplyDeleteOh Tamar! I am glad you saw that movie. I think it would be a great one to see. I like melancholy movies that have an underdog succeeding or getting humbled. hahahaha
ReplyDeleteOh I love movies...been waiting for that particular movie to come out my way....seems to be stuck in just a few theaters too far from me. We have a theater like yours a couple of burgs over from me...and I so enjoy the elegance that all theaters used to have....but alas no more.
ReplyDeleteFun to see! Here we´re not allowed to bring cameras in when we watch movies, so I can´t take any pics unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! I love the looks of that theater and the curtain. Great post! made me happy. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece of history! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh that is really cool! I would love to go see movies there!
ReplyDeleteGoing to the movies is like my favourite thing to do ever, well that and eating. That place looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar old theater in our town still operating today. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWatching movies at the cinema these days is a treat. I haven't been to the movies in ages.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that last shot!
I love that you share all these awesomesauce experiences with us... I would love to go to the movies like that (but most of the really classy vintage cinemas don't have captioning, boo!)
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful space!
