Tis the season, Boston style

I just love this time of year, the cheer that's in the air, the lights on the buildings, and the cold air. Since it finally got cold here in Boston, it really feels like the holidays are around the corner. So, Saturday night after Shabbat ended, I decided I needed some retail and holiday cheer therapy. So downtown I went in search of new boots and pretty lights!
It's not the holidays without a trip to Crate and Barrel, I just love it there and their decorations didn't disappoint this year! I even treated myself to their Chanukah candles, can't wait to put them in my menorah this year!
Then I made my way to the Common to see Boston's Christmas tree. It's really pretty and not over the top at all, just simple and bright.
From a distance the lights looked like the fancy new LED lights that are all the "rage." But, up close they were classic colorful bulb lights. Either way, so pretty!
From every angle the tree was just stunning. I loved how it wasn't a mob scene down there. When I lived in DC the National tree (understandably so) was always a mob scene, which took away from the fun and beauty of seeing the tree.
The night in general was just perfect, cold but not frigid. The State House was all lit up, apparently I missed the Occupy rally just a few hours before. And then there was the moon! The church steeple is the historic Park Street Church, dating back to the 18th century.
The frog pond has been turned into the ice rink for the season, it was hopping (bad pun) and all lit up as well, I'm determined to get there to skate this winter!
It was so fun to see Downtown all a glow. I just love all the lights and sights of this time of year. I really needed some photography therapy this weekend, I managed to fit in that and some retail therapy, too!

These are some really awesome night shots, T! I really love the one of the State House. a bit eerie with those bare trees in the foreground, but pretty and grand at the same time.

Cool shots! And not easy in the dark.

Lovely tree lights. I am a big fan of Christmas and Christmas trees even though I don't celebrate Christmas myself. I just love soaking up the Holiday cheer while I bring a little more light in my world with my wee little Chanukkah candles! :)

May it be a season of light for all of us!

Chanukkah sameach,
This Good Life

so - did you find boots?
Boston in the winter! Our daughter (& grand-daughter) used to live in Providence, RI --- JPE & I would always make a trip to Boston on the train. Such wonderful memories. Although we love having them in California, we miss our trips to the upper East Coast.
