We took advantage of the nice (albeit chilly) weather on New Year's Eve and headed to the Zoo to see some animals and the zoo lights! I just love zoo lights and haven't seen any since I was in high school (goodness me, that is now years ago!) So we bundled up and headed to the zoo!
We arrived before the zoo itself closed so we could see some of the animals. Noam was at the age where he could really watch the animals and seeing him stare through the glass was so fun. We watched the leopards pace back and forth. He's obsessed with dogs, or dundies, so not sure what he thought of this huge cat!
Then off to polar bears! One was snoozing away, and the other was putting on a show. Walking forward and backwards, over and over. Apparently polar bears in captivity have repetitive behaviors like that, there was a sign saying they are studying it. My prediction: they are bored!
Of course we had to be silly in the midst of seeing the animals. Ben, works in the DA's office so he sees his fair share of mug shots!
Noam was all bundled up and looked so precious!! He is not a fan of his hat or gloves, but oh my word he was so precious!
Then we went inside to warm up and see the elephants. Noam was loving watch the baby elephant playing with his toys. It looked like he was "teething" too!
Of course we had to take Noam's picture on every animal statue!
Then we went over to the lions who put on a very impressive show! The lioness was licking the glass, and pawing at the small children, it was awesome to see them interacting rather than sitting around sleeping.
Then we had some fun with the mearcat display. I went through, then Noam came through, then Noam and Ben came through. We were laughing so hard!
By that time it was dark and the lights were looking amazing! They had some amazing displays, one that moved and ones that were so creative!Of course we had to take Noam's picture by the gnomes!
And all the paths were lined with these gorgeous LED lights! They were so colorful and so beautiful!
And the trees were all aglow too! We had such a fun time at the zoo! We thawed out over delicious Thai food, then came home, drank champagne, watched the Hangover II (don't judge), and were all asleep before 2012 came in!

So much fun- I love that they have lights too- they came out so pretty. I really need to find a zoo to take my kids.
Fun! I don't think I've ever done a light tour at a zoo! What a great idea!
I DO ZOO TOO!! Love it! Great pictures. Our Cleveland Zoo does do lights but I have never seen them. We do BOO at the Zoo as well. I must admit, I am a fair weather, it must be warm, kind of Zoo person! Happy New Year!
Hello Tamar.. I love your blog! It inspired me to re-work my design a bit:) What a wonderful day at the zoo, with lights and all! Fabulous!
WOW! Those lights are awesome.
Looks like little Noam had a blast, too. :)
We would have loved to go to the zoo when we in OR as we'd read great things about it. Maybe next time... :)
