Weekend Walk

After a week of wet and dreary weather I took full advantage of the glorious sunshine this past weekend and went for a nice long walk. I headed towards the Gardner Museum and of course found plenty of other fun along my way.
I had walked by the stately Harvard Medical School before, but never taken a closer look. It is quite large and palatial with all it's stone and columns.
Then I made my way to the Gardner Museum. I haven't been since they opened the new modern wing. It is gorgeous, so open and airy and modern. A stark contrast to the nearly 100 year old building from when the museum began.
I really wish I could take pictures of the actual museum. There is so photography allowed or cell phones and they are strict! Although there is something to be said for walking through a museum and enjoying the art and not thinking about what to take a picture of!
The new and old sections are bridged by this modern walkway - a lovely old meets new. I then wandered around a bit and learned a bit more about the famous art heist that happened there in 1990. Two "police men" showed up late one night saying that a silent alarm was tripped. They tied up the guards and walked out with 13 famous painting,a Vermeer and 3 Rembrandt's. The docent said security is insanely tight now and apparently smarter night guards are hired too...
I then headed towards the rose garden. They have such stunning roses there! With some crazy names, like Carnival and Tropicana and more!

All is all a nice relaxing way to spend a weekend as my official summer approaches!

I especially love the shot inside the walkway. It gives such a sense of distance and the rose collage is so pretty too. How about those night guards? it's hard to believe that could happen. Thanks for sharing your walk!

What a shame you can't take photos inside! That kind of thing kills those of us that LOVE taking photos! I love all of these, but my favorite has to be that second row. The sandy colored fence? Maybe? The texture and light is awesome!
