High Line

Mom and I had a great Thanksgiving day. We started the day with a trip into New York to walk the High Line and see the 9/11 Memorial.
The High Line is an old freight rail line, above ground in lower Manhattan.  A few years ago the city saved it as it began to turn it into a park. It is now essentially an amazing boardwalk, of sorts, with bits of old rails, art/sculptures, and amazing landscaping.
It was such a nice break from how one usually walks in the city. No need to stop for cars or at lights. Just a chance to walk, peacefully through taking in the amazing scenery.
We had some amazing views into alley ways and side streets. We could even see clear across the Hudson into NJ.
All a long the way there were off shoots with benches or areas of terraced seating. So much variety and amazing planning.
There are some awesome buildings that have been built along the route. Prime, swanky, real estate.
The landscaping was just amazing. Much of it was naturally occurring, the seeds blew onto the route long before the High Line came to be. The natural life was such a nice juxtaposition to the industrial feel that was all around us.
It was such a lovely walk. The weather was perfect and such a nice way to spend part of our Thanksgiving.

Beautiful images! Love the colors & that sunflare. Looks like a wonderful way to spend the holiday. Are you from NY? I grew up about an hour NW of Manhatten. Great time of year to be in NY!

What a great way to spend Thanksgiving. I'd love to visit New York with my family. Haven't been since I was in about 3rd grade and we lived in New Jersey, and that was a LONG time ago. :)
