My happy place

11 years ago, this month, I strapped into a snowboard for the first time. This past weekend, I once again was back at my happy place: on my board on a mountain!
Having a car makes it so easy for me to now to take advantage of all the amazing mountains around here. Just two hours in the car and there was 3,000 vertical feet of awesome-ness in front of me.
Mt. Sunapee was such a winner. 40 open trails, high speed lifts (what did we do without them?), and amazing conditions.
I think I had my best showing ever. I've always been tentative about connecting my s-turns (especially on steep terrain) and this time I was flying down the slopes on both edges!
It was so sunny (thank goodness for good goggles) and the mountain wasn't half as crowded as I thought it would be. I got in 12 runs (my goal for the day), including a double-black. I didn't realize it until I got to the bottom. It explained why it was so darn steep, but I made it down with no issues!
Honestly, I am just so darn happy on the slopes. My mind is actually 100% clear at times. Which, for my mind is huge since I usually have an insane number of ideas racing in my brain! I just take in the sights, the sounds, and the rush of the wind around me.
Sunday, we had perfect conditions. Minimal wind, temperatures above freezing (an improvement on past days), and recently fallen fresh powder. I think it was the ample powder that helped my form, having some powder to cut into helped me feel confident switching onto the front edge - it's all about traction on the board!
Now that I have hit the slopes once this season, I am chomping at the bit to get back out there again! So many mountains in the region to tackle!

Thanks Sunapee for a perfect day!!

Tamar! wow! Great views and great photos! But you know that Utah has the greatest snow on earth, right? No, just kidding. It just the slogan around here to get the Olympic bid. I hope you get to go on those slopes more and more!!!!

I'm afraid I'm not suited for this kind of activity anymore, but it sure does sound fun and freeing.

I can tell I am much older than you. 10 years ago my husband and I took snowboard lessons in Colorado, but after a few hours we were done...sore backs, sore legs and sore wrists from falling. It didn't help that our kids would go flying by on their boards to check on us. Beautiful pictures, glad you found your happy place!

Sounds and looks like a wonderful way to spend a day!

I haven't gone skiing since college. And unfortunately, being in Louisiana they're aren't really mountains in driving distance. I would absolutely love to take a vacation up to the mountains, but unfortunately my husband isn't a huge fan of cold weather. So we'll see if we ever get that to happen.
