P52: Week 10 around the sun

How is it already March 11th? How has it already been 10 weeks since New Years?

Okay, maybe it doesn't feel like March because we had another foot (13.5 inches) of snow this week. No one saw it coming, but it was crazy and got me snow day 2 of the year!

The 4 days we were at school were pretty great. The kids are still eating up the outer space unit. They wrote some awesome acrostic poems inspired by pictures from the Hubble telescope, seriously they blew me away! We also learned all about the length of a day and a year on the other planets. They loved learning all about that and their bar graphs came out awesome!

Also, totally random, I watched "Pitched Perfect" on Saturday night. That movie is a very odd cross between hilarious and really out there...

Highlight of the week: Totally unexpected snow day! We were maybe going to get a few inches and wound up with over a foot. It was kinda nice to hang at home and get a 3 day weekend...

Favorite teaching moment:  my math class doing SO well on their unit test on 5 of the times tables. They did so so so well and I was so proud of them (and of me - never had to teach multiplication before!)

Random-osity: I had to teach my class what it means to "be kind and rewind" (mainly due to my brain not working and using that as a sentence during word study) - proving I am old at the ripe age of 25...

I echo the thought that your kids are lucky to have you! My brother works (has for about 10 years now) at the Halekalaka Observatory on Maui. He would love to see these acrostics and these young minds beginning to dream about the stars!!

Too funny, I just saw that on a streaming video the other day, and had to laugh. :-) Love the outer space unit! We just watched "The Universe" series and I loved all of the images as well.

hey Tamar! I finally am up and around and linked onto the hop. I am feeling much better this morning but DST has me all off schedule, you too?

Those answers to the galaxy or star words are so funny. Cute students you have.

Yes, it is the 10th week, crazy, huh?

Love seeing what you are up to in the classroom.

And it is funny how quickly technology can make us feel old!

Acrostic poems are so much fun! :)

Pitch Perfect... I have never managed to finish the movie. Both times I started watching it on the plane and both times, they had to shut it down before I even got to the halfway point (because we were touching down). :( Both times I chose to watch something else first... serves me right, I guess. :)

I just love it when the kids get it. Man! That feels good. Good for you for doing such a great job. Old at 25? Ha! ;)

Are you teaching 3rd grade? My youngest is in third and learning about space and multiplication too ;0) So fun! I love your kids' work. Wish we had a snow day here but the sun was just as welcome.
