P52: Week 36 around the sun

Has it been a week since Labor Day? It feels like that was ages and ages ago!

After a quiet Labor Day and a half-day of staff development, it was all about Rosh HaShanah this week!

I drove home to NY this year, as opposed to mom joining me in Boston. We had a wonderful holiday together and with friends and family. Services were meaningful and beautiful. My mom's shul erects a huge tent for services and it's delightful to be able to walk around outside and still hear and be a part of the service.

I ate way too much, but it's a holiday, so calories don't count, right? I tweaked my apple cake recipe this year and it turned out amazingly well (recipe tomorrow!). I have also found that everything always tastes better when it's shared with friends and family, which we did a few times over the past few days.

It was a great holiday, so simple in many ways, yet one of the best Rosh HaShanahs in recent years. It's a great feeling to have going into the new year and of course, we're still not done! It's back to "normal" this week before Yom Kippur arrives at the end of the week!

Highlight of the week: Having a wonderful Rosh HaShanah in NY with mom, family, and friends - it was a meaningful and wonderful holiday!

Favorite teaching moment: it's more funny than anything...our school building was without wifi on Tuesday which we needed for our staff day...so we couldn't do anything and had to call it quits after trying to get some things done...how did we live pre-wifi??

Random-osity: During lunch on the first day of the holiday, my cousin and I were talking about the Newsroom (love!) and both realized that the actor playing Reese Lansing was the husband, Eric, in Julie and Julia - mind blown.
I'm working on growing the blog's facebook page - won't you please join me over there as well? I post a sampling of the random things around me and would love to connect there (here) too!

And I am on bloglovin' here! Plus the various other social media sites, see the links at the top right of the page!

sounds like you had a great weekend. I don't know anything about Rosh HaShanah but, I'm going to learn something about it today. As a Catholic I think it's important to find out about our fellow Jewish brothers and sisters religion and embrace them. Thanks for sharing. Love your new outfits!

Rosh HaShanah - is beautiful! Fasting? confessing? and really meaning it? Sounds very familiar to me. :) I'm all over the Seder meal - my family will most definitely be celebrating the Passover again this year. Now I'm in love with Rosh HaShanah. :) Have a great day Tamar!

Sounds like your "holiday" was so very lovely, sharing with your family and friends. And you are absolutely right, there are NO calories when you are celebrating a holiday, especially a religious holiday.
