Field Trip!

I've talked about Thanksgivukkah a bit and the big day is almost here! Well, KSA is going prime time because of it too. Actual prime time. On Thursday, PBS came up from DC to do a feature on KSA and how we're celebrating. Since I am teaching all about the Pilgrims and Maccabees my class was the educational focus on the filming!

I was mike-ed up and everything. My class were rockstars too!! They acted like the cameras weren't there at.all. and they were so amazing! The lesson was great and it will be so weird to see us on TV later this week!
The fun and publicity didn't stop there! The whole school got on buses and we drove over to Plymouth Plantation. We had time to tour the village - perfect for our social studies, unit.
My kiddos had research questions to ask the Pilgrims and were so adorable asking them the questions. The place was hopping too...'tis the season!
The Pilgrims really act like it's the 17th century so when one kid asked what Pilgrim children did for fun the man responded, "what is this fun?" He was a rockstar and responded, "what do the kids play with?"
PBS came with us to Plymouth too - they followed my kids around some and other KSA groups. I just had to laugh at the image of a Pilgrim with a boom mice over his head!
Of course, I was there as a teacher, but snuck in a little artsy photography! It's such a fun place to do it!
After our time in the village, the whole school came together for the real reason we had all trekked to the Plantation. We sung the Thanksgivukkah song, presented the Plantation with a "Thansgivunukiah," and we were then presented with an official proclamation from the Governor proclaiming November 28th as Thanksgivukkah!

After that, we traveled down the road to sing the song at the Mayflower - I snuck in a 30 second lesson "look gang, the Mayflower - imagine 102 people spending 3 months on that...great back on the bus!" Then it was back to school.

We had an amazing day. I cannot wait to see our school on tv and I promise to share the link/info with you all! Happy Thanksgivukkah!!

My big question is will the airing be local PBS or will we all get to watch? I'm so watching if I can! Sounds like an amazing day!
