We finished reading "The Little House in the Big Woods" this week and I was beyond excited to start our next read-a-loud. This was read to me when I was in third grade and I can still remember it so fondly. We're all loving it so far - and it's perfect for the subjects we're covering in word study: homophones, figurative language, metaphors, and similes!
The Random:
We're in the throws of our Passover learning right now. I will share more about what we're doing closer to the holiday - but for today's random-ness: Jewish Math.
I love teaching this, especially ahead of our fractions unit. -- You take the middle matzah, break it in half...then you take the larger half and hide it away for the afikomen. Say what?
The Fun:
I'm not ashamed to admit that I am a gigantic kid at heart! So naturally, I had to buy "Frozen" and watch it this weekend. I don't often buy DVDs (last one I bought was Les Mis - contrast, eh?) but this one is too good to not own!
The movie madness continued when 10 friends and I all saw "The Muppet Movie" Sunday night. SO. MUCH. FUN!

Awe I remember The Little House in the Big Woods, will have to now pick that up for mine!
It's Spring Break for us, so I think the boys and I will see The Muppets. Still love Kermit!
I can't wait to see the Muppet's, Love them still after all these years hehe :) thanks for hosting :)
My daughter went to see Frozen in Japanese this weekend (apparently has already seen in it English) - and even with her explanation and enthusiasm, I've come to realize that I've outgrown silly animations (until grandchildren - when I'll have my 3rd childhood). Sounds like you had a fun weekend.
Hahaha, we succumbed and bought the Frozen DVD, too :) We knew that we were going to get plenty of mileage out of it. We already had a play date where Z and her friend (with whom she watched the movie at the cinema) watched it over and over and sang and giggled over the bonus features. :)
I love good movies and we just enjoyed Frozen this weekend. Great! Have a good week!
I'm coming to hang out with you! You have all the good stuff! Our favorite Little House book is Farmer Boy. I think I salivated through the whole thing!
I wonder if Gabbie would like the phantom tollbooth. is it scary? I love everything in this post from the jewish math to the muppets!
I have heard of "The Phantom Tollbooth" but have never read it. I think I need to. :)
It's been a great week in review Tamar!!! Can't wait to see what you do this week.
Totally with ya on "Frozen"...LOVE IT!
hey Tamar! Yay, for nephew time again. Woot Woot! Yup, these nude heels are my FAVORITE SHOES. Ya can't tell huh?
I think I have to buy Frozen too (it might be going in somebody's Easter basket). We also bought Les Mis but we also just bought Catching Fire recently. I think Les Mis was the one before that though!
Fractions and matzoh! How fun!!
We saw The Grand Budapest Hotel this weekend and loved it! Muppets looks good!
I love Frozen soooo much!!!
I'll have to check out those books. I don't think we have read either. Frozen is such a great movie! I could watch it every day! We've been listening to the soundtrack on YouTube - singing our lungs out. :)
You're so fun. I think it's great you see, buy and enjoy the kid movies. I bet it also helps keep you connected to your students and nephews.
We just finished reading Little House in the Big Woods aloud, too.
It was read aloud to me in 3rd grade, I re-read the whole series as an adult while expecting our 5th child - reading some of them aloud to our other kids at that time.
Now he (our 5th) is 7 yrs. old & we're enjoying reading them aloud to him. :)
I have not seen Frozen yet, but have heard such good things about it! Fun post - you rock. :)
I really do need to check out Frozen. I've not seen it yet, but I keep hearing good things.
I absolutely ADORE The Phantom Tollbooth, and while the book is better still love the movie.
And as for 3rd grade read-alouds I distinctly remember our teacher reading Roald Dahl's The BFG to start off the year.
