Last week, in Chumash (bible) we did a project to respond to the parts of Parshat Vayera we have read and studied so far. The three particular stories we've read and analyzed so far are pretty deep content so I decided to let the kiddo respond using the torn paper method.
They may use one sheet of each of the 4 colors provided, a glue stick, and a white background. Each color can only represent one person/place/thing in the picture and they can't use scissors - only their hands and creativity.
The stories they could respond to were:
- The 3 angels visiting Avraham and telling him they'd have a baby
- Sarah laughing at the shocking news the angels delivered
- Sodom being destroyed
I was floored by their creations!
This is Sodom - his idea was what the city would have looked like if there were more righteous people than wicked.
She did a top down perspective (our mapping unit permeating Judaics!) of Sodom being destroyed. The blue is the sky, the purple the buildings, the yellow the fire, and the pink the smoke.
This is Lot's wife being turned to salt as she looked back. The purple represents her body becoming salt, the yellow is the flames, the blue the sky, an the pink is Lot's wife.

Here, the yellow is the setting sun, the blue the sky, the pink are the buildings, and the purple is flames and smoke rising up to the sky.
This is a scene showing the angels, in purple, coming towards Avraham, who is blue. Avraham is bowing like we read in the text and emerging from his yellow tent. The pink is the desert where the angels came from.
This is portraying the angels, in pink, talking to Avraham, in blue, about Sarah having a baby. Sarah, in purple, is thinking about the news. The thought bubble represents Sarah's thoughts and the yellow is her tent.
I was blown away - these are tough stories to digest and we aren't simply hearing them, but studying them in depth. This was a great way for them to reflect on the stories in a creative way.

I do think it interesting that so many chose to do Sodom. Although I guess in some ways it is easier to create a city and individuals.
