The Good: The Random: The Fun: v. 47

The Good:
Over the weekend I made baked oatmeal. I kinda just winged it and it came out amazing. Served it up with some freshly made apple sauce (still going through apple picking apples!) and it was super delicious!

The Random:
We started our study of the 50 States. We first checked to see how many we knew. Let's just say, I have plenty to teach. Also on the list of "no that's not a state" - ISIS, North Korea, Iceland, and Denver (yes, there is a football team from there, it's not a state!).

The Fun:
To wrap up our study of landforms, the kids worked in pairs and researched a landform and then they each got to make it out of clay. Friday we painted them (21 and 20 third graders + paint....). They did such a great job and they came out great!! Then I had to wash 60 something brushes, I am so not an art teacher!

Baked oatmeal looks yum. A while back I made Granola myself, that was very good, too.
Have a great week!

As a kid, I thought Chicago was a state. ;)

That's funny - no that's not a state. Gotta love that age.

Gabbie is doing a state unit right now, in fact it ends tonight with a show! I'll be blogging it on Wednesday! funny thing though, she told Simon the other day that Chicago is a state!

Great post...my grandson is in one of two groups of kids trying to create a new animal. They have to name it, tell about its habitat, and create a drawing, among other things. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

HI Tamar, I love the looks of the baked oatmeal with applesauce; reminds me of apple crisp. Yummy! Oh those kids are such fun. Have a great week.

Oatmean is my go to morning meal. It's pretty much what I eat for breakfast every. single. morning. :) never tried that version before though!
Oh, and the 50 states...I have a mild obsession with memorizing crazy stuff and I can name them all in abc order. Im sure you know the song '50 Nifty United States?' we learned that song in 2nd grade and I still remember it.
Have a great week!

Baked oatmeal with applesauce... interesting! Speaking of apples, I tried a super yummy apple cinnamon cake yesterday and I can't wait to get my hands on a recipe to try making it myself.

The oatmeal looks great! I'm not sure I could name all the states even now. :) Maybe if I tried really hard. I remember when my son painted land forms. I helped in his classroom that day (3 years ago). It was fun. My youngest will probably do that this year.

That baked oatmeal looks so good and nice and warm for the cold weather. Brandon's class is starting to study the states and each child gets a state to do a report on. He has Virginia.

Love the oatmeal, we eat loads over here, we call it flapjack and it tastes amazing hot or cold...

I remember hearing a story of a student who was so was able to identify Italy on a map because it was the shape of a boot. Except it was a map of the US, and the boot-shaped state was actually Louisiana!
