Stuff my third graders say v. 6

kid: is it true someone dies every 7 seconds?

me: we're going to begin studying the native americans
kid: oh they're like MLK!

me: you will divide...
kid: and conquer!

kid 1: it's like the arctic tundra out there!
kid 2: i thought the tundra was only at the north pole!!
me: what else comes in 5s?
kid 1: school days!
kid 2: when it stops snowing, yeah...

kid 1: are we learning about mute people?
kid 2: mutilated people?!

kid 1: Ms. Benjamin, when is the weather man coming?
me: he said he'd give me some dates in April
kid 1: MS BENJAMIN IS DATING THE WEATHER MAN!!!!!

me: phe-nom-en-on
kid: mah-na mah-na
me: not quite...
me: the next word is Paris, what country is that in?
kid: France!
me: the next word is pink
kid: I know what country pink is in! every one!!

me: make sure you go to the bathroom before the play, you can't get off stage during it! (no one leaves) really? all you guys do is go to the bathroom all day long!
kid: I leave a lot, but don't actually go to the bathroom!

me: you don't need your coat and hat and gloves on to switch classrooms, you realize, right?
kid: but it's so hot out. oh wait. right.

kid: ms. benjamin, if you're vision is so bad, I recommend eating more vegetables and fruits!
me: which meat is this?
kid 1: like the food like chicken or steak
kid 2: no! the torah doesn't say chicken is meat, only the rabbis do.
me: well, yeah...

kid 1: I've never had any illness this winter!
kid 2: you had the stomach bug last week...
kid 1: that's a bug, not an illness.

kid: do you have a giant toothpick?
me: no. why?
kid: i have a giant thing stuck in my tooth, obviously!

kid: this game is more for fun than actual learning (it was a math game)

Ha ha! You do get a little recognition from the weatherman now and again. Hmmmm? I'm dying at the bathroom comment because it is so true. Oldest trick in the schoolbook.

Tamar, thanks for sharing these, always so delightful. Bless you for being a teacher.

I think my favorite was the kid who replied to your divide with conquer! My next favorite was the bit about chicken not being considered meat like beef is. One of my friends said to me "Have you ever seen a chicken drink milk?" That prohibition is silly and she was raised Chabad.
