The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 16

The Good:
The big NCTM math conference was in Boston this year, which meant we got to go. Shifra and I attended two days and it was fun going to sessions, hitting up the expo (free stuff!), and hearing all about the latest "trends" in math education.

The Random:
I have a marker fairy in my class. At least once a day, I find my white board markers in some formation...

The Fun:
We're spending the next few weeks on the various times tables for multiplication. I have a ton of fun centers planned to learn the facts in fun ways versus just drilling them. We even practiced our multiples by playing hopscotch!

I love the marker faerie. I like when kids do things like that because it reassures me that they are always thinking.

Where were you when my daughter was lost/stuck/bored/frustrated in math class??!!!

Making math fun for the kids is really important and I'm glad that teachers nowadays find different ways of presenting / teaching maths, instead of just straight drilling.

Fun times! I'd love to know some of the math games you are using. My 3rd grader is in the middle of learning his multiplication facts and adding some fun stuff in always makes things more interesting.

I almost get the hives when I think 'math'. Sounds like you had a good time learning new and fun techniques and the kids look like they are enjoying the lessons.
