The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 22

The Good:
I taught my favorite math lesson of the year this week. Fractions on a number line. Yes, this is my favorite. I put an actual line on the ground and using fraction cards we explore the order of fractions between 0 and 1. They actually see that 1/2 is larger than a 1/3, and so on. Best yet, is it naturally teaches equivalencies, which makes my life easier when we get to that topic!

The Random:
Tammy is a common nickname for Tamar. I am so NOT a Tammy, I actually really detest when people assume they can call me that. So when I clearly said "TAMAR" to the barista but was called "TAMMY" when my order was ready...yeah no so thrilled...

The Fun:
The RI Air Show was this weekend, one of the features this year was the jet truck. It's a semi truck, fitted with 3 jet engines. It can go over 300 mph! and spews fire and spoke and goes boom. It was epic. It raced a plane, and won!
Lots more plane pictures to come.

The truck sounds kinda scary, the fraction line, awesome (I am such the visual learner). Glad you are getting a little rain - we came out of Allyson's graduation ceremony and our black car was yellow with pollen dust.

Hi Tamar,
It is always so evident that you just love your job (calling).

I'm right with you on the name thing except that I would eventually just not answer to anything but the correct pronunciation and/or spelling of my name. (that's just how I get sometimes) Then I'd go and ask why my order wasn't ready and when I was told they called my name I'd make it known that my name is ............ not ............ (And of course I could never go there again because they'd spit in my coffee, LOL) Like I said, it's just what I do sometime. I'm lucky I can go anywhere locally and get served safely.

Have a great week.

I would never think to call you Tammy! It would be so fun to take fractions with you!! That jet truck sounds amazing and a little scary!

I can tell you are not a Tammy even never met you in person. I would never assume to use a nickname on someone unless they told me to. When I worked in an office with a Teresa people would call and ask for Terry - then we knew it was someone who didn't know her.

Oh my goodness, my comments today are full of typos. Please forgive me. I will start proofreading more carefully!

That truck is really cool.

I like the fractions line. Where I am (my students are a lot older and don't have the basic skills) I use a ruler and tape measure. Remember, if they master fractions, they have a good chance of mastering higher math.

Tamar a great approach to teaching fractions, for sure. That's quite a truck exhaust!

I love those pictures, but better away from the fire truck!

That engine (truck) is awesome!
About morphing your name - I understand, because I'm Jennifer, Jenny, Jean, and I've grown so weary of it that I say my hubby's name. Mostly they look up with a question mark on their face, I nod and repeat his name.
Only one time I was challenged with "What's YOUR name?" So I started spelling it. By the end of the nine letters, a sigh. I smile and bat my eyes (with a look "I told you so").
But this is nothing compared to when I have to give my mother's maiden name 3 first names and 22 letters for her last name - that's why I hate changing bank or credit cards!

A jet truck, and cars are very cool! We saw them once at our raceway, and it was a blast! Great fun. Cool photos too.

I don't know what a Tammy looks like or acts like, but you are not a Tammy! There is a lady at our local grocery store that calls me Lisa, not matter how many times I corrected her. So, I just roll with Lisa. :)

Tamar, and I will Never call you Tammy, you have such a love of teaching and I know your students learn so much from you. They are lucky to have such an awesome teacher. And that truck, whoo. Sounds like something from one of those "Transformer" movies!!

Math is fun! I would never consider calling you Tammy. :) Cool truck!

Have a great week! Thank you for hosting!

Interesting jet truck! I don't know why someone assumes "Tammy" when they see Tamar.

Great idea to put the number line on the floor like that. The air show looks like a blast. Glad you had fun.

Wow! That is quite the vehicle. Great way to illustrate fractions. I finished teaching for the summer this week. Glad to have my break.

Sorry to miss out - again! I really have needed a breath - but I hate missing out (kind of like a little kid that needs to go to bed, but doesn't want to miss the excitement) I love how active your classroom is - very fluid and the kids aren't stuck in their chairs. It's great!

Most time I don't even bother giving my name at Starbucks and just tell them my name is Sara. So much easier for all of us!
