Lady Liberty

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore...

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door...

{The New Colossus - Emma Lazarus}

We took a trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island last week during Pesach.
I hadn't been to the Statue of Liberty since I was about one and a half and was so excited to go. Ronan may have been ever more excited to see it!
We explored the museum and climbed the stairs to the pedestal balcony.
The views were amazing and the awe I felt standing in her shadow was intense.
I can only imagine what the immigrants felt when they first glimpsed that statue after weeks at sea.
The promise they felt with the shore within their sights finally!

...sights that I've never seen. How nice that we were once a welcoming nation. Thanks for sharing.

Your photos are breathtaking! I've only seen the Statue of Liberty once at a distance! The feeling of being so close must by overwhelming!

Great photos! It has been a long time since I have visited Lady Liberty. Last time I was in NYC we just took a water cruise but didn't get off on her islands.

I love the photos you took. My girls are begging me to take them to NYC, so I'm hoping we can get there in the next few years.

I have never been so up close and personal, I never realised quite how vivid her colours are, your photos really bring this out.
Such a great landmark in all that she stands for.
