NYBG: Kiku

No trip to NY is complete without a trip to the botanical gardens. Fall was on full display on this early November day, but the main attraction was an exhibit in one of the test greenhouses. It featured the most ornate and intricate mums I'd ever seen.
The chrysanthemum, or kiku in Japanese is a very celebrated fall plant in Japanese culture. There are many ways they train and nurture these flowers - from sculptures to bonsai trees!
It takes the NYBG horticulturists 11 months to grow their mums in both modern and ancient styles. It was a truly beautiful fall display!
