Things My Third Graders Say v. 24

kid: it's percussion
kid 2: a concussion?

me: this game is kinda like...
kid 1: checkers! 
me: no...
kid 2: BINGO!!!!!

kid 1: i like the warriors
kid 2: ugh a bandwagon fan
kid 1: no...a warriors fan

kid: may i have a question mark please
me: you mean a bookmark?

kid 1: can you touch fish
kid 2: ewwwwww
kid 1: what you eat it, why not touch it
kid 2: no playing with your food!
kid 1: it's kinda cooked
kid 2: half-baked!
kid 3: mmm ice cream

me: parts of speech are what
kid: words
me: be more specific 
kid: allllll the words

kid: does fiction have a ph or a k
me: neither
kid: what letter is that?

kid 1: if you were a calculator what color would you be
kid 2; i don't math, i don't want to be a calculator!

kid: what's a trevor
me: it's a who not a what
kid: how do you spell piqua
me: p-i-c-a?
kid: no it has a q
kid 2: sounds like you know how to spell it

kid: mrs. benjamin
me: not married....
kid: sheesh get a move on! 

kid: i'm thirsty i need water
me: bring a water bottle tomorrow
kid: how does that help me now

me: be the bigger person
kid: i am bigger 

kid: i ran out of snacks
me: so what should you do when you get home
kid: eat
kid: i'm not allowed to have a pet, just baby brothers

kid: this isn't my best work
me: why
kid: because i didn't put any effort in...

me: ok peoples
kid: peoples isn't good grammar
me: actually you can say peoples
kid: no i have more grammars than you
me: really

kid: i want a hampster...from new hampster

me: boys, no wrestling 
kid: we're not...
me: looks like it
kid: we're playing 50 states twister! 
me: no
kid: you get a card....you get a card...you get a card!
me: really oprah jr?

me: there is no reason to maniacally laugh in math
kid: math is the reason to maniacally laugh in math!

kid: these cards are the garbage pile
me: it's not nice to talk about the cards like that
kid: really?

kid: what's it called
me: i don't know, what it's called
kid: that's the point, what's it called
me: we've reached an impasse
kid: no that's not it

me: just making sure i'm not losing my mind
kid: you are
me: thanks....
kid: i mean i lost mine on the first day, so you lasted longer than me!

Haha! Kids!!! I taught mostly 16 and 17-year-olds, and I sometimes I had written down some of the stuff they said. Loved how one student told you to "get a move on"! :D

Such a riot! I just love these... especially the one about not being allowed to have pets just younger siblings. I always thought this was the best part of teaching!
