At the entrance to Central Park at 5th Avenue and Grand Army Plaza, there is often a funky art installation. Right now, through September, there is an amazing piece called "Doors for Doris" - we and others who walked by joked it was "NY's Stonehedge" but it actually has an even cooled story and meaning.
The artist, Sam Moyer, used stones that are the bedrock of the island of Manhatten and represent what has helped the city to build up into such towering heights. Massive stone inlaid with marble in mosaic type designs, the "doors" represent the bustle of the city. Super cool!
