Morgan Library

We made it down to the Morgan Library and Museum last weekend. In 1924 J. P. Morgan, Jr. donated his father's extensive library to the public. Pierpont Morgan, one of the most influential financiers of the time, was also an avid collector: rare books, manuscripts, drawings, prints, and artifacts. They're now housed in his original libary and other connecting buildings that now make up the museum.
The main library room is amazing. Three stories of books in gorgeous cabinets, walls covered in detailed tapestries, and even 3 Guttenberg Bibles, one open and on display! It is amazing to see Morgan's collection and learn how he slowly amassed these treasures. So grateful his son turned them over to the public so we could enjoy them!

Tamar, this looks like a fascinating place to visit! I love old books as well as the history of old New York and the big money folks that grew out of that old time era! Thanks for sharing.

I would love to live in this library!!! Are the books available to the public? Or to anyone? I noticed they were behind wires so I'm not clear on that...

Are patrons allowed to actually borrow books from the library? Those gorgeous bindings sure make.my Kindle look pretty bland...
