Summer For The City 2022

Lincoln Center is back with another gorgeous summer art installation. This year it's a series of participatory works by artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya. Her Southeast Asian roots are central to her art and the pieces were truly beautiful. The collected works are called "Gather: A Series of Monuments and Rituals" and seeks to remind us of our collected humanity, especially in light of the challening time during covid.
"Seeds of Hope" finds orange and yellow ribbons wrapped around the trees in the Barclay's Grove. It honors Thai culture where ribbons are tied to trees signs of a person's wishes or prayers. You can take a ribbon and either write a message or simple tie it around the trunks.

"Islands in the Sea" is in the reflecting pool and serves to honor the grief we may carry from the past 2 years. There are 9 sculptures that are meant to be beacons of relection, guiding us from the losses of the past and into the future.

"Threads of Joy" is the 3rd piece still on view. It's colorful fabrics knotted around three frames. It's a hommage to the symbolism that knots and string represent connections and unions. The colorful cloths hang above you, with notes of joy written by visitors, tying everyone together.
