I took advantage of a stunning summer day and drove up to the John Jay Homestead. John Jay was one of the Founding Fathers, president of the 2nd Continental Congress, and a Minister to Spain. Nowadays, he might be best known for penning 5 of the Federalist Papers (before getting sick). He played a key role in the early days of New York State, too.
Jay's sprawling estate is up Katonah and 62 of the original 750 acres are a NY Historic sight. Many of the original buildings stand today and the house is currently being restored further. It's a stunning property and as I wandered around, I kept thinking about what it was like back in the 1800s after Jay moved in!

I love historical places like this! Thanks for sharing it. We are heading to Vermont next weekend and have some historic places on our list of things to do! But first we have to see Ben & Jerry’s!

Looks like such a wonderful time and what a cool place.
What a cool place! Ryan and I binge watched the season of Houses with History, and I learned so much about the history of the earliest houses built here - even before the US was a country. Very intriguing!
