Kengo Kito: Unity on Hudson

The Hudson River Museum opened a new wing, overlooking the Hudson and it's first exhibit was a really unique one! "Unity on the Hudson" by Japanese artist Kengo Kito featured over 2,000 hula hoops interconnected all over the gallery space.
Kito is particularly drawn to hula hoops, not only because of their appeal for children and adults alike but also because of the resonance of circles in Zen Buddhist philosophy. I personally loved the whimsy and how the hoops filled the space and no matter where I looked there were new connections and shadows!

6BC - Botanical Garden

Nestled in Alphabet City is a true oasis! 6BC Botanical Garden is just a block from the famed Tompkins Square Park and a real hidden gem in the Village. 6BC is a community garden that was founded in the 1980s by community members who stumbled across a vacant, trashed lost between two apartment buildings. They turned into an amazing public place that makes you forget that the city looms outside the park gates.
The place is simply stunning! It was so lush and filled with little paths, sunken seating areas, a pond and fountain, bird houses, gazeboes, and even a tree house complete with comfy chairs and shelves of books to enjoy! The garden felt like it was under a spell, feeling far bigger than the footprint of the lot would let on. It was so relaxing to walk around on a late summer's day.

I always say parks make cities liveable and for this neighborhood, this is one amazing place to have!

The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 38

**going live a few hours early ahead of Yom Kippur tomorrow!**

The Good:
I ordered some MixTiles of our family photoshoot and hung them on my stairs. I love seeing them as I go up and down and the tiles themselves are SO awesome.

The Random:
When Halloween decorating and ski season meet?

The Fun:
Our 5th graders had their annual seining day on Thursday! The weather was perfection and the kids had a blast exploring sea life in the Long Island Sound. A true WDS highlight.

Penetrable and Orange Cube 48

The Hispanic Society Museum & Library, in Washington Heights, has two amazing immersive and interactive works of art on their plaza right now. "Penetrable" by the late Venezuelan artist, Jesús Rafael Soto. He is most known for his kinetic and movement-filled works. "Penetrable" is made of suspended yellow plastic tubes hanging from a steel grid. Viewers can move through the tubes and it was so cool to be enveloped within them and watch them move to and from as others engaged with the art.
Argentinian artist, Marta Chilindron’s “Orange Cube 48” is currently installed on the lower terrace. “Orange Cube 48” is a folding interactive piece made of 66 square panels, hinged together like an accordion. If they were to be folded closed, they would form a perfect cube. The bright orange walls create a maze that was fun to walk through, like a mirror maze but without the chance of getting whacked in the face!

I really want to get back to the museum to explore the collections inside, too!
