Over Thanksgiving weekend we went to the Jewish Museum in the city to see the newest exhibits. Both of the featured exhibits feature two artists who happen to be Jewish, but their Judaism didn't influence their work. Both exhibits were amazing and so different from each other!
The first exhibit is "Marta Minujín: Arte! Arte! Arte!" includes nearly 100 works by Argenitinian artist Mara Minujín. She is known for her bold experimentation with color, mediums, and messaging. She was born in 1943 in Buenos Aires, to Russian Jews who fled Europe. Today she is one of Argentina’s most recognized artists and celebrated cultural personalities. She continues to produce multimedia installations, participatory events, paintings, and sculptures. Her use of color and materials -- the huge canvases are sliced fabric from matresses -- was really amazing!
The next big exhibit was "Mood of the Moment: Gaby Aghion and the House of Chloé" featured around 150 amazing designs that came out of the Chloé Archive. The chosen pieces highlight Aghion’s vision of effortless, luxurious fashion, and feature work of iconic designers who began their careers with the brand, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo. Aghion was known for founding a fashion brand characterized by an easy elegance. Each piece was more stunning then the next and a true classic from a fashion mecca.
