Amaryllis

I just love amaryllises (amaryllisi?)! I have always thought they were just gorgeous and I remember, as a child, giving them to my teachers as holiday gifts. My mom gave me one to grow this winter and it was so fun to watch it grow and bloom before my eyes.
I loved coming in everyday and seeing how much more it had grown or if it had blossomed. A nice little surprise at the end of a long day!
This was such a gorgeous white. It really livened up my apartment. So nice to have a flowering plant in the middle of winter, just makes it all cheery and not so dead and dreary.
I'm sort of bummed that this one is already fading, but I can't wait to next winter to watch another amaryllis grow and blossom!

PS: I thought my word verification was off, now it really is off!

They are pretty. I tend to kill plants though. I'll enjoy yours.

They are such pretty flowers. :)

I'd only first heard of amaryllis at my friend's wedding where she had stalks of amaryllis at each table during the wedding reception.

So beautiful, Tamar . . . especially the shot on the right in the third row. So lovely! I haven't had one for many years but do remember the delight of checking each day as it unfurled its glory.

Looks so pretty, delicate and strong at the same time.

They are very pretty! Here in Sweden it´s tradition to buy them just before Christmas, it´s considered to be a "Christmas flower". I actually don´t know anyone who buys them in the other seasons - isn´t it funny?! :-)

Fun! My grandmother could get hers to re-bloom over many seasons; I always thought that was so amazing!

I used to "do" these and sort of forgot about them. I should next year. How nice to have a spot of color amongst the "gray" days. Thanks for sharing yours.

Oh wow!! That did bloom beautifully :) I'm usually not very good with plants, but I have an orchod that is still thriving! I spritz it with a bit of water every morning and it's still looking healthy...I'm so proud!
