So, I finally caved and tried a green smoothie. This awesome breakfast was just as amazing as Boston's actual Green Monster. I will admit, I was slow to jump on the green bandwagon, but now that I am on it I am not getting off!
I loosely based my smoothie on a recipe I found on Pinterest. This one used spinach and not tons of other veggies, but a banana instead. It also had oats and walnuts which I wasn't so into.
I decided to keep the banana, added some flaxseed for some extra fiber, some almond butter, and drizzled in a little maple syrup.
Hello, amazing!! I was hesitant about how well the magic bullet would blend the spinach, and it did a nice job. The spinach was not tastable at all. It tasted of banana and almond butter, a favorite of mine!Yup. It was that amazing.
I was also full for hours after - the combo of the spinach, banana, and flaxseed really kept me going all day!
Green Monster Smoothie:
- 1 cup of almond milk (sure you can use milk of your choice)
- large handful of spinach
- 1 frozen banana in chunks
- heaping 1/2 tablespoon of flaxseed meal
- heaping 1/2 tablespoon of almond butter (can use nut butter of choice)
- small drizzle of maple syrup
- a few ice cubes
Put it all in, blend it all up, and seriously, enjoy!
*disclaimer, I tend to be a wacky food combo type of person, so my taste buds are already in "healthy crunchy mode*
**sharing this creation, makes me realize I should share more of my fun smoothie creations, since it is a go to breakfast for me**

Sounds very tasty and healthy. Thanks for the recipe Tamar. :)
I love spinach. A very nutritious and healthy breakfast.
YUM! I just a blender (last one died) for the purpose of making some green monster smoothies!
Nice! We need a good blender. We have a smoothie machine, but I don't think it does the job. I have to admit that I'm hesitant on the green, but I keep hearing that it is no big deal. I love spinach normally, but something about it being in a drink is scary. But, I trust you! Will have to try it.
Hmmm, will have to give this a try... but do you think it will work as well if I skip the butter?
My dad does a "green" thing every morning, too, but I don't like it very much. He combines green pepper, celery, bitter gourd, pears, and something else (I forget!)...
Tamar, You should of seen the look on my face as I was reading your post. Face all distorted like what? But when you wrote about not tasting the spinach...I was like Okay then♥ Thanks for sharing.
I'm a big fan of green smoothies. I tend to use kale over spinach since I read it was the "super food" I use no recipe, just start throwing things in. My #1 announced, "looks like poop, but tastes great" what more would you want? LOL
Well done - sounds very healthy. I'm not as game as you are though, the only combination and amount of green I've managed so far is parsley mixed with carrot and apple.
I think I would definitely have to get over the monster green color first, haha!
I recently became allergic to cabbage, I know, strange thing to be allergic to. But I have now a long list of fruits and veggies, fresh, that I have to be careful of...I'm afraid smoothies may be out of the question for me! :(
Sounds yummy!! Thanks for sharing!
I like EATING green things...I just have a phobia about DRINKING them. Not even a McDonalds Shamrock shake! But I'm sure it tasted good...just green tho.
I've never been brave enough to drink green things. I like my veggies in a salad.
It sounds quite good!
Looks yummy! I need a better blender though. My fear would be encountering a chunk in my smoothie :).
I'm not usually a fan of anything "green", but you make it sound very appealing that I'm curious enough to they :)
I think I might need to try this. A friend of mine has been swearing by spinach in smoothies for ages...but I do need to start getting more calcium in my diet and the thought of just drinking more milk is not so appealing. But a healthy smoothie might do the trick!
Hi! I found your adorable blog and thought I'd pop by! I'm your newest follower and was hoping that you'd pop on by and follow me back!

A great way t o start the new year!
I think it sounds amazing!
You have almost got me convinced to give this a try! I might have to close my eye to get it down though?

I had to come by and check out your recipe. This is pretty similar to the recipe I used. I put vanilla greek yogurt in mine. I'll have to add the flaxseed next time, or maybe some protein powder, because it seemed like I was hungry before I should have been ;)
Yes, share some of your other smoothie recipes!!
