If I had a million dollars...
I don't have a million dollars, I most likely never will. But, there is a Jewish proverb that says: "Who is rich? He who is happy with his lot."I am happy with what I have. I have a marvelous life. I may not be rolling in "dough," but I am rich in so many other ways.
Tzedakah, charity, is something we are commanded to do as Jews. Even though we might not be rich, we can give a little something to someone who has even less.
I try to drop a few coins into my tzedakah box every day, and know as it fills up I have the chance to give others something, that to them, might seem like a million dollars.

Beautiful photo, and a beautiful way to live.
You know, this is it. We've had an "interesting" eight years financially...we left a 20+ year career and had to re-tool...all while kids were finishing highschool and in college. And we adjusted to less. Pretty easily, actually. The hardest thing for me was seeing the "gift budget" get axed! I really do hate not being able to give... whether it's gifts or charities... it just kills me. We've gotten to a point where there's much less pressure...so I've been able to start giving to some favorite local groups...just a little, but it's so good to sharing my pennies!
You are blessed with a wonderful life and in the end that's what really counts. Great photo - love how you captured the reflection of the coins.
Love your thoughts here! So many of us are "millionaires" and don't even know it!
That's a great quote -- he who is happy with his lot. Something we can all think about every day. I like your reminder to give others something, even if a little bit. Yes!
You are right...giving and sharing can fill you with a lot of happiness and that is worth more than a lot of money!
honestly....when i think about being rich, i rarely think about money!!
i like your image!!
I love this response to the song Tamar. Rich can be thought of in many ways. Your kind spirit will bring you riches of many kinds.
Beautiful! My kids refer to coins as tzedaka.
A beautiful post with filled with thoughts that are rich beyond what anyone could "buy". You are blessed AND rich :) Thanks for joining in on Song-ography.
Your Tzedakah box is beautiful. Mine is running over and needs to be turned in~Your thoughts are beautiful Tamar
I have to agree with you, Tamar - well said!
It makes all the difference in the world when we are able to recognize our blessings. I think that just as humans we are commanded to give to those who have less than we do. In all the ways we can.
I love how you think. Charity is something we can all be part of no matter how much we have. It's about putting others first. Not always easy to do, but something to strive towards.
Well I learned something new today, I love the tie-in to the meme.
I totally agree with where our richness can lie - not in the dollar amount in our bank, but by what lies within our hearts.
Love this post!
Lovely post and giving is something that brings joy to not only those who receive but those who give as well. - Your box is also quite lovely.
Great box and great quote! I learned something new too!
what a beautiful box... functional + pretty = a win! win! situation. I know I've said this before, but I love all the things I learn about your religion by visiting your blog. Thank you!
Your box is a beautiful piece of art as well as a wonderful reminder to give to those less fortunate and appreciate how blessed one is (even without the million bucks).
What a great post ! Love your out look
