Doggy Bags

 Who let the dogs out...
woof, woof, woof
Who let the dogs out...
woof, woof, woof...

{Who Let The Dogs Out -- Baha Men}

I started following some NY "things to see" IG accounts and this caught my eye...6 giant sculptures of dogs in the Garment District of NYC.

Each dog is 4x the breeds real-life size and made from plastic bags and duct tape. Maisy, a pug; Stanley, a basset hound; Spicy, a chihuahua; Harriet, an English bulldog; Gomer, a bull mastiff; and Daphne, a vizsla.

I will say, a vizla and bull mastiff 4x their normal size = HUGE dogs! I love me some public art and this was a fun excuse to get back into the city to explore again.

Autumn in New York

Autumn in New York
Why does it seem so inviting...
Autumn in New York
It spells the thrill of first-knighting...

{Autumn in New York -- Frank Sinatra}

Fall has been putting on a show here in New York.
Gorgeous colors.
Pumpkins and gourds.
The crisp air.
Fall in New England is hard to top, but NY is doing a pretty - a-ok job!

Apple Picking

Me and my friends are gonna pick a bag of apples...
Me and my friends are gonna pick a bag today...
Gonna climb up the tree and pick a bag of apples..
Ooh, yeah, gonna pick a bag today...

{Pick a Bag of Apples -- preschool song}

My apple picking tradition continues even in a new state! I took advantage of a day off to drive up north in the county and pick some apples.

I admit, I am a creature of habit and was worried a new orchard would live up to my beloved Honeypot Hill in MA, but this orchard was really lovely.

Great scenery, perfect fall weather, and delicious apples. I gathered up some Cortland, Idared, Macintosh, and Winesap and called it a day.

Nothing better than fresh apples you picked yourself as an afternoon snack!

Muscoot Farm

You can have a lot of fun in a New York minute
But there's some things you can't do inside those city limits...
Ain't no closing time, ain't no cover charge
Just country boys and girls down on the farm...

{Tim McGraw -- Down on the Farm}

We took advantage of a perfect October day and drove up to Katonah to explore Muscoot Farm.

Muscoot Farm was originally a gentleman's farm (they farmed for pleasure vs profit) owned by the Hopkins family. At first, they used it as their summer home and as a dairy farm. Then, in 1924, the family moved to the farm year-round and continued the dairy business until 1967 when the County took over the property.

Today it's home to the original buildings and 50+ animals. We didn't see their pigs or donkeys but saw loads of other adorable farm animals. The buildings are closed due to COVID but it was fun to explore the property and see how extensive the farm was back in the day.

There was a farmer's market there when we arrived which was a fun fall bonus. A total gem in the county!
