Song-osity: Everyday People

There's a blue one...a green one...
There's a yellow one... and the red one...

I am everyday people...

I'm now working in the general neighborhood where I live. In the 12 weeks since school has begun I have run into, or seen a student of mine, while I have been out and about.

Sometimes, the kids are excited and give me a huge "Hi, Ms. Benjamin!" while other times, they look mortified to see me outside of school. Usually you think that pre-school kids freak out about the concept that their teacher may live outside of the building, but 3rd graders can totally think that too!

It is actually really cute to see them try to think of me as a real person when school is done for the day!

The other day, one kiddo and I were talking about our shabbat dinner plans. I told her I was going to a friends house and another boy who was sitting by us went, "But, Ms. Benjamin, tonight when you get home, what will you do for dinner, like how do you get food tonight?"

I smiled and told him that I was a grown-up who lived alone and had to cook her own food, he tried to digest that one, and then went "oh so you have to cook your food, man that's tough!"

Yup. Teacher by day. Everyday person by night. It is cute to know that to these adorable kiddos, from 8 to 3:45 I am just Ms. Benjamin, their teacher.

*recycling a very old picture from college, all I could muster this week*

Oh how dear! So funny how kids think!

I can see my 7-year old grandson asking those types of questions. Even as adults we tend to see people in certain environs, and when we see them in another spot we think "I've seen that person somewhere." Funny story.

So true...just yesterday I sent a link to a violin student of me playing her current song so she could listen and watch at home. She had just been to my house for a lesson and her mom told me she was so surprised that "her very own violin teacher" was on "tv" (actually the computer). They can't seem to grasp that we live outside the world in which they know us.

HA! That is a cute story. I've never thought about it before. I'll have to ask my kids what they thought when they would see their teacher outside of the classroom.

Love the pic and your edit! That's so cute about running into the students. I think I'm still surprised to see teachers outside of school....even as a parent!

Hahaha, that's so cute! I love the stuff kids say sometimes.

I provide literacy support to some kids in J's class 3x a week and earlier this week, one kid said to me, "Er, you don't look like you today, Mrs. L." I asked him what he meant and he said it's because I had on a scarf and I had my hair up in a French twist (it's usually just in a ponytail)... and I was wearing a long skirt instead of my usual pants. It was just rather amusing the way he said it... :)

ha ha I understand this completely! My husband is a school teacher in our local community. I still laugh at an incident years and years ago when a 5-6 year old saw him in the supermarket. The look on his face was priceless! We heard him say to his Mum "Mr Harrison is buying food!"
Have a wonderful week.

I love it! On one hand children can imagine above and beyond the call of duty, on the other it is with the complete innocence of blinders where everything is exactly as you see it and only as you see it. Teachers teach (period)- no way do they shop/cook/date/ or go to movies (oh my!).

My continued thoughts for your family as your mom makes her recovery. Have a joyous and Happy Thanksgiving.

I remember seeing my students for the first time with my husband. The girls had lots of questions for me...so funny. Yes, Teacher by day. Everyday person by night. LOL! Happy Thanksgiving!
