Song-osity: BAA 5K

Run, running all the time...
Running, running as fast as {I} can...

{Running - No Doubt}

The days leading up to the marathon here in Boston are super exciting! One of the kick off events is the BAA 5k. They give out 10,000 bibs for the 3.1 mile race through Back Bay.

Race day was Saturday and I was a healthy dose of nervous and excited. Some elite runners run this - as the warm up for the marathon! I got down to the Common and starting line bright and early. It was a cold start but the feeling in the air was electric.

Standing in the cattle shoot as the race got underway I got emotional, this was my run. I'd been fighting bad asthma for a few weeks and nervous about actually running at my normal pace. I joked with a friend that my lungs knew I was finishing, and that they were more than welcome to finish with me!

As I crossed the start line I just took off and focused on the mile I was in.

I hit the 1st mile at 10 minutes, solid! I did the 2nd mile in 9 minutes! That gave me the push to just keep running. One of the best parts was running down the Comm Ave tunnel and high five-ing the runners running the other direction. This race is Boston's race and we're all in it as one.

After turning around at the 1.5ish mark you then follow the marathon route. The famous "right on Hereford, left on Boylston" was amazing to run. The second I made that left and saw the marathon finish line I got chills. I know what those runners feel after 25.5 miles.

We had to keep running another 2/3 of a mile to the 5k finish, but the cheers as I got close powered me through. Hands up across the finish line!!

I was so proud of myself. I wore my medal all morning!

I finished in 30:13 and I couldn't be prouder of myself. This was all for me. Tamar Strong!

And! Come link up and join the Good.Random.Fun. each Monday, right here!

(I just had to giggle at the 6th pic from the top --It looked like you're the one bright spot amidst the grumpy people in that scene!)

I could never enter a running competition - so I congratulate those who do. My son runs marathons. To me it is madness. But for some it certainly is a passion. Well done you.
