With something wrong inside it...
High on the hill sits a big old house...

{The Secret Garden -- High on the Hill}
In my continuing attempts to still have fun adventures, I discovered Bancroft Castle out in Groton. I read about it on Atlas Obscura and knew it was a must-visit.
The castle was built by General William Bancroft around 1906, but he ran out of money after building the tower and bungalow. Eventually he sold the land and property to a local doctor who turned it into a mental hospital.
After the hospital closed, the site became a social center for the area until it burnt down in a firecracker accident in 1932. Now it sits on a trail in a gorgeous hilly section of the state. It was such a fun place to explore and I will for sure have to go back in different seasons to check out the views then!

...this reminds of the three little pigs who built their houses, the smart one used stone!
Oh my goodness. That is STUNNING!!! I love it!
Oooh such a cool spot to discover!
I love castles.
We have the Atlas Obscura and love using it to find unique and random places to visit. This castle is really cool!
Not familiar with the quote, so just thought what was wrong were the trees growing in the castle. It's a lovely ruin.
Off to see what it looked like in it's glory days. I love Atlas Obscura...
Wow, what a beautiful place. That is truly a lovely castle.
this looks like a wonderful place to explore and take photos. I love the stone work on the tower. Have a great week, and thank you for keeping Communal Global alive.
I would love to explore the ruins of Bancroft Castle! Lovely photos.
Thank you for taking us on a wander of Bancroft Castle - lovely escapism from our social distancing in Thailand. I'm happy for the fresh air and blue skies as the castle/hospital have a tough past, it would be fascinating to explore for sure. Thanks for hosting
