The Good. The Random. The Fun. v. 21

The Good:
Another book down. This was a bunch of short essays, poems, and writings about Yiddish in America.

The Random:
This little gnome is sitting against a little parking hut around the corner from my place. Because why not...

The Fun:
I can't take credit for the idea - but we played Guess the Book Title Using Emojis and it was a HIT. I now have nursery rhymes and more book titles ready to go!

I think the little gnome is a bit late....or early. I’ve always used a few Yiddish words...like schlep...and I didn’t realize it was a word from a real language until I was an adult. It’s funny how words and languages merge like that. It wasn’t until I had my own children in the public school system in NH that I realized that the entire country didn’t have Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur off. I grew up on the North Shore and we had them off every year. I haven’t read the book but I think we all must have “rubbed off” on each other a little bit. Whether it’s words or customs or food, I think there are some that would be very surprised to know how much of other people they have in them.

Cute stuff, Tamar! Ralphie’s teacher has been doing guess the book with emojis as well. It’s a fun little exercise to get our brains started! I hope you had a lovely weekend.

That gnome is funny!!! And our big theatre company is doing guess the musical through emojis and I can't figure out any of them! It is clearly not my game.

Hi Tamar
Guess the book sounds like a fun game!

That Gnome is cute and is looking for someone to take him home ;)

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and know a lot of Yiddish words

Is there a book titled "Dragons Love Tacos?" I love that guessing game. I wonder if my grandsons would play!

That's a cute gnome but yeah, why? Also looks like a fun game to play with your students. Glad they loved it.
