Westchester is filled with old manor houses, the palatial estates that the elite built when they moved north from the City. Some are now museums or historical sites but some are sadly in disrepair like the Alder Manor home in Yonkers. Once owned by William Boyce Thompson, a former mining baron. The 80 something room mansion with Grecian gardens lies overlooking the Hudson River. It's just now undergoing some sort of preservation and you can wonder the gardens.
The manor borers the Lenoir Preserve which is an official county park. There is another slightly run-down manor house surrounded by gorgeous fields and paths overlooking the Croton Aquaduct trail. This house is also getting a major upgrade and I hope it becomes some kind of museum because I am all about historical houses! I want to go back to the preserve in the summer and see it all lush and green, too!

It actually looks pretty interesting in this state but I am sure it will be beautiful when renovated!
...it's amazing what "old money" could buy!
I've never heard of Lenoir Preserve but it looks like a fascinating place to explore.
It looks creepy but cool!
It looks like a movie set! Thanks for hosting!
I have a fondness for doors. And the wooden door is wonderful!
I watch snows like this tour on youtube, exploring old homes. I love trying to see them as they were when just built and imagining the lives spent there
This would be a good place to take a haunted Halloween tour!
Such a cool place/post!
Wow very cool! I'm so glad it's getting some TLC to bring back some of it's palatial beauty.
This manor house and its surroundings look beautiful. I can imagine what it looks like with a good renovation.
Oh I love seeing all these old houses and how wonderful to hear they're going to start restoring/ renovating it.
Oh what a cool place, Tamar! I love old run down places like this, too. How awesome if it is being restored to a museum of some sort!
