Highbridge Park

I took advantage of a super sunny Sunday a few weeks ago to finally explore Highbridge Park in Manhattan. The park sits along the Harlem River in the Washington Heights neighborhood. The hilly park has several playgrounds, gorgeous trails, and lots of rocky vistas. The water tower stands at the top of the park, overlooking the High Bridge, which is the oldest standing bridge in the city and connects Manhattan to Lower Bronx.
The bridge recently reopened after a massive renovation and provides such amazing views of the Bronx, the rivers, and Manhattan. High Bridge used to be part of NYC's first water supply system, the Croton Aqueduct, which started all the way up in Westchester!

The park also houses one of the many free public pools. The Highbridge Pool is the largest public pool in Manhattan. The pool was built on the site of the old Highbridge Reservoir and opened in the summer of 1936. It's probably best known for being the pool in the movie version of In The Heights from a few summers ago!
