Song-ography: We are the world

Ever since the beginning, to keep the world spinning...
It takes all kinds of kinds...

When I listened to this song, I thought of my class and a discussion I overheard them having during snack one day.

They were all sharing their job goals and dreams. One said she'd be a doctor, one said he'd be a lawyer, one said they wanted to be an athlete. I looked up from prepping my lesson and saw the future. 9 kids, with their lives round them, 9 little lives who will one day choose their path and help make the world go round.

It then made me think of something my mom always says. That is does take all kinds of kinds. The world needs the doctors and lawyers and teachers, but it also needs the coffee baristas and bus drivers and authors and mechanics. We might assign more esteem to the prestigious jobs, but as long as you're happy and following your dreams you're making the world a more interesting place to live and helping it go round.

Great insight! Even though the graduate slammed me, I still understand he has his opinion. It bothered me more that he has such a negative look on ALL that surrounded him growing up, when he could have stepped back - enjoyed the view and maybe, just maybe learned from others.
It's an amazing world we live in, isn't it?

Excellent point and illustration. I love how as a child the world is your oyster and the pickin is ample; you can be a rock star on Monday and a life guard on Friday and it's all cool.

Children...all over the world...dream of their futures and have no fears to keep them from accepting each other. Such a joy you must find in the midst of their energy every day!

Your post gives me goosebumps. Yes, just imagine these young ones and where they will go in this world! So much potential. And you are helping shape them, day by day.

You have an awesome job. I wanted to be a teacher but my dream didn't quite pan out although I think in a way I did get to be a teacher (as a parent/grandparent). - I love the globe for the line about the world spinning. - You must have a small class if you only have 9 kids. There are around 28 in Coleen's class.

Amen to this Tamar! I had so many directions to take on this one, but the festival was fresh in my mind. I was also just thinking of the all kinds of kinds it takes just to put on a high school football game... it's mind boggling!
