Let them make jam!

I have always wanted to make my own jam. My sister makes it each summer and it just tastes amazing. This summer, I finally decided I'd give it the old college try. Sadly, I wasn't able to go berry picking, but fresh berries from the market are the next best thing right?
There was a major sale at a local store and I scored Ball jars for a great price, so I knew I was meant to make jam!
I made freezer jam, so I didn't have to fuss with boiling the jars. I also got a great all natural pectin at Whole Foods - all set to make my own all natural jam.
I have no recipe to post, I just used the one in the pectin box. I used honey rather than sugar and used less than called for, the berries were sweet enough!
I wound up with 9 pints of jam! I did boil the jam itself, that way I made sure I killed any and all bacterium, not much scares me but botulism does. The jam will also keep longer when I do defrost a jar. I know have a ton of jam for the foreseeable future!

You are something else! Hey, stay cool today. I just saw that it is going to reach 95 degrees today in Boston.

I've made both kinds of jam --freezer and canning method but it's been awhile. The freezer stuff is so easy! Your jars look beautiful all lined up. I always feel all "little house on the prairie" when I make jam!

That sure looks yummy! :)

I recently came across a recipe for jam that doesn't need pectin, but uses chia seeds instead. I'll have to dig that up... been meaning to try it.

I like the idea of freezing it. The original canning method scares me. I'm always afraid it won't seal, and go bad. I'll have to try this method. Looks so good, Tamar!

My mom-in-law always makes freezer strawberry jam too LOVE it! She had never frozen it in jars tho, always plastic bags. I like the idea of using the jars...much prettier too :)

I always freeze mine- what on earth would I do without my freezer for just about everything. :) Looks so good. I need to thaw some of my berries & make a batch or two. Thanks for the inspiration Tamar!

Good for you! Looks yummy! I went to a college that started in the home of Mrs. Kerr of Kerr jars, but that's the closest I've gotten to canning. Sure looks good!
