Song-osity: The Nutcracker

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

It's the happiest season of all!

Sunday afternoon, I went to see the Boston Ballet's Nutcracker with two friends. I was a little bit excited. I haven't seen the Nutcracker in years and have never seen the Boston Ballet perform.

Growing up as a dancer, we went to Philadelphia every year to see the show. It would be a magical day and I have such fond memories of a day in the city seeing the gorgeous show. Well, this year I got to relive those memories and make some new ones.

There is nothing like getting all dressed up, seeing little kids in their fanciest clothes, and taking in the ballet at holiday time. Our seats were amazing, but in the Opera House I doubt there is a bad seat. The show was marvelous. It's a new staging, and while different than my beloved Pennsylvania Ballet's version was magical and stunning in its own right.

Once I heard the familiar sound of dance shoes on the flooring, memories of Nutcrackers past and my own dancing days came flooding back and I for sure slept with visions of sugar plum fairies in my head.

And! Come link up and join the Good.Random.Fun. each Monday, right here!

I haven't gone to see the Nutcracker since my children were young; before that, it was a yearly tradition. I need to pencil it back into my calendar for next year and start up an old tradition anew.

Glad you got the opportunity to do this with your friends - as you put it, making new experiences from old traditions.

So happy for you that you had the chance to see this wonderful ballet! There was an article in the last Vanity Fair about how the Nutcracker became part of the American christmas tradition. Enjoy the season...

Oooohhhhhhh - I'm so jealous. My mom & I saw the ABT do it once when I was in school. Then of course we saw the Rockettes do it once about 15 years ago. I would so love to take my girls to see it. Going to the ballet is something I truly enjoy.

Went often in Phili when I was a kid too! We took the kids here in Boston ...hmmm...maybe almost 10 years ago, so I haven't seen the new staging. Might have to add that to next year's list!!

This is so fun! These performances really are magical. I still haven't taken Gracyn but I really should!

Of all the plays and concerts I've attended I have yet to see the Nutcracker. I must put it on my list. Merry Christmas.

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen The Nutcracker since elementary school. But I'd love to see it again, even more fun if I'm bringing my daughter with me!
